Last month I saw on Instagram, a blogger  post a pic. of Nivea After shave Balm and had tagged it as best primer ever. I was like, What?? I did some research and reading good things about it, I went and bought it that week itself. I bought the After shave in Sensitive as I din’t want to take any risks with it. I put this product to test and the test results are below.

Price: Rs.235/-

Availability in India: Yes. Easily available.

Detailed Review:

It comes in a white bottle. It has a screw-top cap and you can remove the product out. The mouth  is wide so have to be careful while pouring the product. The smell is bit heavy for me. It is strong and very manly, like their deodorants. But fortunately it doesn’t last for more than 5-10 mins. The packaging is pretty standard, I guess men don’t care about the packaging as much as we do.

The product is very gel like and runny. I used it in place of moisturiser and applied it all over my face. once applied my face was very wet. I had to massage it nicely till the product was absorbed. My skin felt very hydrated at that point and my skin was sort of glowing.

Test Results:

The foundation I have the most problem with is L’oreal True Match which is bummer as it is supposed to be one of the best drugstore foundations. When I use it on just bare face or with moisturiser , I find it very difficult to apply it and blend on my face. It starts drying very fast on my face and makes my skin look cakey. I hate how this foundation looks on my face.

Then I tried this foundation with my Smashbox primer, though blending was bit easier, it still din’t give me the results i was looking for with true match.

I then decided to use Nivea After shave Balm with true match foundation for the ultimate test. Oh boy, was I surprised!!! The foundation went on so smoothly. It din’t make my face cakey. On the contrary it added a subtle glow on my face. Isn’t that amazing.

The reason for this is glycerine which is 1 of the main ingredients in the  Nivea after shave balm. Glycerine helps the products stick together and hence last longer.

I tried this product with couple of different foundations and a BB cream and I got good results with all.

Even if not a primer, it acts as a good moisturiser as well. For the price you get ample amount of quantity and since you need little product it will last forever.

I would suggest to do a patch test on your arm before trying on your face just to be on safe side.

The only drawback I would say is the smell but that goes away in few minutes. Other than that it is a product worth trying.
